Take Our Kids to Work Day will occur Wednesday November 6, 2024. Take Our Kids to Work Day is an experiential learning opportunity for Grade 9 students across Canada offering them the chance to see the world of work firsthand, explore a variety of careers and sectors, and look at what skills are important to thrive in the world of work.
Grade 9 students will have the opportunity to job shadow a parent/guardian, or another adult approved by their parent/guardian, on November 6th.
Period 1, Grade 9 teachers will distribute TOKTWD parental permission forms (lavender sheets) on Tuesday October 15th, to their Period 1 Grade 9 classes (and some grade 10 classes). There are some extra forms down in the main office if needed. These permission forms are due no later than Wednesday October 30th.
Parents may choose to have their child:
- Shadow them at their workplace.
- Shadow a friend, relative or community host at their workplace.
In the event a Grade 9 student has nowhere to go for TOKTW, they MUST attend school and attend their regularly scheduled classes. The Students Commission of Canada has some resources if you are interested. See Educator Guide attached.
Finally, if you plan on bringing a Grade 9 student to North Toronto to shadow you, TDSB staff should confirm participation with their school/site supervisor/administration if they would like to bring their child to a TDSB school/site for TOKTWD.
