Gr 10 Class Visits WongAvery Asia Pacific Peace Museum in Scarborough
Posted on April 24, 2025
This April, Mr. Tse’s Grade 10 History classes and Ms. Boyce’s Grade 10 Visual Arts class visited the WongAvery Asia Pacific Peace Museum in Scarborough. Our classes were given a small-group guided tour by knowledgeable museum staff. We learned so much about the terrible violence that occurred during World War II in the Asia Pacific region and the importance of remembering and acknowledging that painful history. We also deepened our awareness of the Canadian war experience, including accounts by Asian-Canadian soldiers who served, prisoners of war captured in Asia, and the realities of Japanese internment here in Canada. We finished the day by creating messages for peace by making beautiful butterfly origami. The three classes will soon create artworks that will be displayed in an upcoming exhibition later this year. This interdisciplinary project is aptly called History + Art = Peace.
