The NT drama students, in collaboration with the strings ensemble, have produced a powerful drama and contemporary performance to express the collective sorrow and grief of Remembrance Day. The choreography, developed by guest dancer Jessica Dubeau, Ceren Ucar, and Ms. Bilmer, begins with a peaceful scene featuring a young girl. As the piece unfolds, the family tableau grows increasingly intense with the start of war and the passage of time.
While the sound of the strings echoes the weight of war, the movement reflects the heavy cost of war paid not only in lives lost but also in the destruction of communities.
Today, we are constantly surrounded by images of war on the news and social media, and it is easy to become desensitized to the harsh realities and the pain. However, silence carries a cost of its own. Through this piece, we remember that we all share the same sorrow and sadness in the wake of loss.
We honour the experience of those who have suffered and are suffering. We recognize those who are silenced by our silence. Together, we remember all whose lives will be forever impacted by war and commit to forging a more prosperous and peaceful future.
