The Varsity Norsemen went undefeated through their Division and eventual Championship run at the York University Holiday Classic Tournament on December 11th and December 12th.
Playing in the eight team SB3 Division, the Norsemen eclipsed Sudbury’s College Notre Dame 3-1 to reach the final. Captain Patrick Jabri-Iannicca led the Norsemen with two goals. That victory would pit NTCI against the undefeated Central Algoma Huskies from Sault St. Marie. Not only were the favoured Huskies undefeated, but they had amassed a staggering +23 goal differential in their four games, scoring 28 goals in the process.
But the Huskies ran into hot Norsemen goaltending when Rory Covert stole the show, especially with a pad save late in the second period with the Norsemen clinging to a 2-1 lead. Despite a penalty-riddled third period for both teams, NTCI would hold on to secure the title.
Zach Taylor, Martin Clarke, Charlie Bretzler, and Jack Mitchell would score for the Norsemen in the 4-1 Championship win.
